Welcome
I consider myself to be a traditional painter in the sense that things like color, paint, movement, weight, brushstrokes, and concept, are tools, and not the subject of my paintings. My oil paintings are usually done in stages, on a tinted canvas. I begin with a limited palette to establish my composition, lights, darks, a general sense of color. Once my subject begins to take shape, I then refine the painting by adding more colors, use glazes, scumbles, and thicker paint where needed.
In still lifes, portraits, and figurative works I can explore what we (human beings) do, what we think, and what our artifacts say about us.
